About Teacher

Darja Koehler has been teaching music for over thirty years with a particular passion for introducing children to the beauty and magic of the piano. Darja was born and raised in Slovenia (Europe) and she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Piano Performance from the Academy of Music at the University of Ljubljana. She continued her studies in Belgrade (Serbia). She began teaching piano and preparing students for performances and national competitions while she was in high school and she has been teaching and coaching ever since.

After moving to the United States, Darja continued teaching private piano lessons. The birth of her daughter motivated her to search for a teaching method that would allow her daughter to learn an instrument in the most natural way. Discovering the Suzuki Method provided Darja with her answer, and Darja studied the Suzuki Method at Holly Names University in Oakland with Mrs. Caroline Fraser and at the Colorado Suzuki Institute. She is certified in all seven Suzuki Piano Books.

Every summer, Darja helps with the master classes scheduling for the Summer Suzuki Institute at HNU in Oakland, California.

The year 2012-2013 she spent in Europe teaching Suzuki Method, where one of her students won first place on National Piano Competition.

She is a member of MTAC, SAA,PAS,SMAC-BAPB
